Windeater III - MY FAVOURITE ALL ROUND RANG - A FEW TUNING AND THROWING TIPS - by VOLKER BEHRENS

These tips also apply to all Windeater models

This WINDEATER III boomerang is just one more of the numerous variations that I have been making from the original paxolin WINDEATER I shape.. This one happens to be my personal favourite of them all, because it's light, it's predictable, it's accurate, it's very catchable, AND it's good for a wide variety of throwing conditions. IT IS THE ONE RANG I TAKE WHEREVER I GO WHEN I TRAVEL.

Without additional weights on , it should have a range of 30 + meters. For less distance, less spin and easier catchability, give the dingle arm a twist counter clockwise. This slows down rotation and reduces travel and reqires a slightly more vertical launch.

WEIGHTS:

- for additional distance
( for a safe aussie round of 40 meters in all kinds of winds ) i suggest a penny on the tip of the lift arm and a dime near the elbow on the dingle arm. This way you get more distance, but without sacrificing all the hover ( weight on dingle arm ) and still having a lower trajectory. For even lower flight and a few more meters, bend down dingle arm slightly, and throw with more layout. Throwing force becomes more critical here; since hover is reduced and the rang will tend to come in faster and lower.
- for more wind stability; when distance is not reqired, simply tape a penny or even a nickel near the elbow at the lift arm. Keep throwing quite vertically. In addition you can bend down ( slightly!) Lift arm and/ or twist dingle arm counter-clockwise.
- for wind stability with a good hover ( catching events ) try a penny near the elbow on the dingle arm. This will give you a generally higher trajectory with limited distance and very good predictability.

BENDING

- for more hover/catchability: bend the trailing arm slightly upward. This will reduce distance, reduce range and induce earlier laydown of the rang
- for windy weather: you want to stay below the wind and get accuracy? Bend down the trailing arm VERY slightly, throw with more tilt angle and be careful with your power, because this tuning will give your rang a flight which is low throughout and will not end in any hover! It is more like a liong distance Fast Catch throw, risky but very efficielt when you master it!

This little boomerang has so many different possibilities! Play around with the weights and with bending and twisting ( you really want to take it easy on the bending! A little goes a long way! ) and see for yourself; which one suits your throw and your needs best. Hope you have as much fun with it as i still do!

All of the above tuning tips can be applied to any other of my Windeater veriations!

MOOMBA!
