HOW TO WIN A LONG DISTANCE TOURNAMENT IN 5 EASY STEPS

  1. Be fit
  2. Be sure
  3. Be prepared
  4. Be relaxed
  5. Be there (be present)
(Just kidding – that would be the Zen approach…;-)) )

For us regular folks:

  1. Choose 2 booms that you know inside out: #1 for a good scoring throw (not too short, not too risky, has to be an 85% option (in all conditions!), otherwise skip this. #2 your record setter
  2. Know your booms, specially #2. If you play around a lot with weighting and tuning (see website for in’s and out’s) you will know what to do and how much of it to achieve certain qualities. – After your scoring throw you’ll only have so many attempts left, so the idea is to start out with the “basic” tuning (which should be attained after practice the day before!) and go from there, in tiny steps, bending, twisting, weighing- whatever your path may be – towards the limit of your boom combined with your abilities of that day. <<KEY PHRASE.

Of course, some may choose the all-or-nothing approach (I did many times…)
In that case, obviously, you begin at “Basic” tuning…. And just go for it!

What and how to tune:

  1. more far-

- add small weights to lift arm (if turnover is too extreme, counter balance w. small weight in elbow area of trailing arm) – throw more into wind and a bit more tilt angle - OR
- Twist lift arm clockwise (juuuust a little, cause 2° go a long long way) – -  layover is delayed, throw more into wind, more tilt too – OR

  1. Bend down lift arm slightly – adjustments as above @ twisting – OR
  2. Twist trailing arm c.-clockwise OR
  3. Bend down trailing arm

  1. problems and solutions

    1. boom lays over and turns too soon

throw more vertically OR
bend down dingle (trailing) arm a bit OR
give lift arm a slight negative angle of attack ( clockwise twist)

    1. boom climbs too high

aim lower OR more vertically
bend down lift arm OR
bend down trailing arm OR
give trailing arm c-clockwise twist

    1. boom turns too late

aim lower OR more tilted
twist list arm c-clockwise
bend lift arm upwards

    1. boom loses altitude on way home

bend trailing arm up OR
aim lower OR
give more spin to throw (!!!!)

    1. boom crashes on way home

throw harder OR
aim higher
bend up trailing arm OR
use more spin  OR

    1. boom lands way behind me

throw more vertically OR
aim lower OR
give trailing arm c-clockwise twist OR
bend down trailing arm
