On this page I will try to explain the characteristics of the materials I use, why I make so many variations of one model and finally try and help you through all these different choices, in order to find the boomerang that suits your desires, purposes and throwing abilities.
1. Materials - I mainly employ Finnland birch plywood, Paxolin and G 12 epoxy resin. Characteristics and main qualities of these are:
material |
plywood |
Paxolin |
G 12 |
description |
birch plywood, 2 plies per mm | Paper laminated w phenolic resins | Glass fibers laminated in epoxy resins |
characteristics |
tough, lightweight, flexible | heavier and stiffer than plywood | heaviest and stiffest of the three. Virtually unbreakable |
plus |
low material cost, easy to work with= moderate pricing, very strong | great wind stability and tunability, best cost=value ratio | best for distance and wind , great tunability, indestructable |
minus |
poor wind performance | brittle in low tremperatures | heavy for play, highest material cost |
applications |
fun and play, beginners boomerangs | advanced play, competition | advanced play, competition |
2. The charts - below each boomerang's description you find a chart just like the one pictured here:
| throwing skill | pleasure index | competition | wind tolerance | accuracy | forgiving factor |
| ***** | ** | ***** | **** | ** | * |
What this chart is trying to indicate - in values from 1 and 5 stars - is what kind of performance you can expect and what abilities are required from the given model. For example: The (advanced) beginner with no ambitions for competition will look for a high rating in pleasure index and forgiving and a lower one in throwing skill. The advanced competing thrower will look for high ratings in accuracy, wind tolerqance and competition and a low values in the remainig ones.
3. Searching the catalogue by groups: this part is intended to help you sort out the group(s) of boomerangs in this section that you are mainly interested in:

| paxolin models | G 12 epoxy models | plywood models |
